Reflections on life as a parent as a road to personal growth. A mother contemplates the joys - and the difficulties - involved in raising five children, including a set of twin boys and a newborn. It's not just a chronicle; it's a search for the person behind the parent, a quest to discover some meaning behind the madness.
Looks like learning of some sort is happening.....up to the teacher to decide what subject to list it under!
ReplyDeleteFrom my mom via email: I would say washing windows is part of the OLD Home Ec curriculum ... like 1950s!!!! But I know how much Ryan especially liked to help me sweep the deck and the back steps and walkway of leaves, etc. that Mr. Squirrel had scattered last summer!
ReplyDeleteExcept that windows STILL need to be cleaned in the 21st century, right? And yes, the kids were BEGGING to help. Matthew is also getting quite good at washing dishes in the bathtub with me!
ReplyDeleteYou would not want to deprive him of the pleasure of washing windows would you? The social services might deem you an unfit parent!
ReplyDeleteAnd washing windows IS very important here in Germany. Along with keeping the stairs swept and the clothes ironed. I'll teach 'em stair-sweeping but I have a strictly no-ironing policy at my house! We're lucky if the clothes are CLEAN and DRY! Honestly, I just came from a friend who is fostering two children of drug-addicted parents. You'd think social services would have more important things to worry about than what MY children are learning from me at home!
ReplyDeleteIt's "family life," which I suspect is a very important subject of homeschooling!
